Kilchoman Madeira Cask Matured



This Monday 5th October Kilchoman are releasing the Kilchoman Madeira Cask Matured, which is a bit of the normal beaten track for the Islay distillery as the limited edition whisky has been fully matured in first fill Madeira wine casks rather than just being finished in the casks.

This is the first ever Madeira cask release from Kilchoman for which they have selected 17 first fill ex-Madeira barrels that were filled in 2011 and bottled at 50% ABV. A limited release of 6100 bottles a small amount will be available on Monday from 10.00am direct from the Kilchoman website, the remainder will be available soon from specialist whisky shops such as The Whisky Exchange.

The Kilchoman Madeira Cask Matured follows the release of the excellent Kilchoman Port Cask Matured in 2014 which is a great example of full maturation in cask types typically employed by distilleries for finishing.

Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder commented: "This release is a break from the norm for us, it represents a bit of an experiment with full maturation rather than simply finishing whisky in casks like Madeira. Full maturation means that the impact of the cask is that much greater, the challenge is to ensure the whisky remains balanced and the influence of the Madeira cask is integrated with that of the Kilchoman spirit."

The Kilchoman Madeira Cask Matured will have price tag of £69 and will be available from specialist Whisky shops such as The Whisky Exchange.
